Last weekend we spent the afternoon in Grasse, a beautiful town known worldwide for perfume! Four years ago, my study abroad program took us to Eze - another town dedicated to perfume - where we got a guided tour of the Galimard perfume factory. I remember really enjoying that excursion, and couldn't wait to share a similar experience with Joseph. Getting to Grasse was easy - a short thirty minute drive north from Cannes. There are many parfumeries in Grasse, all vying for attention with large, colorful signs giving directions to their factories. We chose Fragonard and sooner or later we were there. Like all parfumeries, entry is free and there was no wait for a guided tour in English. Even though this was my second perfume factory tour, I would do it again in a heartbeat! It's all about the experience - learning the history, seeing the process, and choosing a scent that smells best on you - because the same perfume smells different on each individual! I got some parfum and Joe got some eau de toilette and now we have a souvenir that each time we use, it will remind us of our honeymoon. And of course, when we run out, we'll just have to go back! ;)
Just down the street from Fragonard is a museum of art and history of Provence. Maybe because it was a Sunday(?) there was no entrance fee and we had the place to ourselves! Still undecided what I loved more - the artifacts and paintings or the actual building itself? Can we talk about that gorgeous crown molding, and wallpaper for a minute? And that beautiful garden out back!
Just walking down those quiet cobblestone streets was a treat but for an added bonus we shared an ice cream cone - we've been doing a lot of sharing on this trip. Joe chose our flavor. Rum raisin. Not what I would have picked, but it was good! The man sure does love his ice cream. :)
A pretty marvelous Sunday afternoon, indeed.
